Bangladesh, officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. It is bordered by India on all sides except for a small border with Burma to the far southeast and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. The name Bangladesh means "Country of Bengal" in the official Bengali language. Bangladesh is among the most densely populated countries in the world and has huge reserves of natural gas. Geographically the country straddles the fertile Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta and is subject to annual monsoon floods and cyclones. Bangladesh is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC, the OIC, and the D-8. As the World Bank notes in its July 2005 Country Brief, the country has made significant progress in human development in the areas of literacy, gender parity in schooling and reduction of population growth.

Wednesday 13th December

Wednesday was a bright and early rise as we had a two and half hour bus ride to our first Youth Ending Hunger social action project (SAP) which was taking place in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. This was a great first social action project to visit, and we were given an incredible welcome to the town as we stepped off the coach. We were given flowers and parade materials, including hats and flags. What happened next was a very honourable experience as we took part in a rally to celebrate social action and the work the community is doing to overcome their social issues.

This exchange allows young people to be involved in the international educational experience. This will allow them to explore poverty/child labour in Bangladesh and engage in their practice to increase insight information and experience of the issues and the way they are dealt with. The exchange also allows young people to gain experience and visit community capacity building projects in Bangladesh.
