How much do you know about the Commonwealth?

The modern commonwealth is now 60 years old - but the commonwealth is also getting younger!

The Young Commonwealth: We are family!!

Our Commonwealth family of nations has 54 nations on almost every continent and with very different economic backgrounds. Our partnership is based on equality, friendship and consensus building. In a globalised world, we believe we’re stronger if we help each other and work together for greater social development and to reduce poverty.

Commonwealth countries link 1.8 billion people - more than half are under 25 years of age - sharing a wealth of diverse cultures and traditions, races and religions. We are linked, not just through family and friends in other countries, but by sport, music, fashion, food, language and heritage. With common youth, aspirations and concerns, we are the future.

Our partnership is based on equality, friendship and building consensus. In a globalised world, we believe we’re stronger if we help each other and work together for greater social development and to reduce poverty.

The Commonwealth shares political ideals and human values and agrees on the really big questions. With our shared heritage, and English as a common language, we’ve got ideas to explore.

Youth development is a vital part of the Commonwealth. Whatever your interests – sport, art, music, health, education, environment – learn and share new skills locally, nationally and internationally. You can participate in youth and community organisations, volunteer or develop your own initiatives. Experience other cultures through youth exchange and build friendships that will last a lifetime.

"Commonwealth Conversation Launched"

The Commonwealth turned 60 in 2009.

What should the future direction of the Commonwealth be?

The "Commonwealth Conversation" was launched on the 20th July and this is your chance to have your voice heard; your chance to shape your Commonwealth.

The "Commonwealth Conversation" is a global public consultation on the future of the Commonwealth facilitated by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS). It is vitally important that young people share their views. The outcomes of this consultation will be presented to Commonwealth leaders when they gather at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad and Tobago in November 2009.
