Wednesday 13th December

Wednesday was a bright and early rise as we had a two and half hour bus ride to our first Youth Ending Hunger social action project (SAP) which was taking place in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. This was a great first social action project to visit, and we were given an incredible welcome to the town as we stepped off the coach. We were given flowers and parade materials, including hats and flags. What happened next was a very honourable experience as we took part in a rally to celebrate social action and the work the community is doing to overcome their social issues.

The CYF provides an independent platform and voice for representative Commonwealth youth to consider a young person’s agenda at the same time as the CHOGM. Each CYF addresses Commonwealth youth’s concerns and builds on the work of previous youth fora. Each Forum works to formulate a Statement of Recommendations and Action Plans. These are shared with Heads of Government and disseminated Commonwealth-wide.

We, the delegates of the sixth Commonwealth Youth Forum, representing 47 Commonwealth member countries and territories, are pleased to report that we have held fruitful discussions under the theme of ‘Breaking Barriers: Unleashing Young People’s Potential for evelopment’. We thank our Ugandan hosts for this opportunity. We have committed ourselves to achieving substantial outcomes before young Commonwealth representatives meet again in Trinidad and Tobago in 2009 and ask you for your help in realising these. Young people make up more than half of the Commonwealth’s population. We must continue invest in young people as their involvement can ensure advancements for generations to come.
