Alan Grimsley

Originally from the small town of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland, Alan is passionate about politics and the role of young people in society. He studied in Scotland and graduated from the University of Stirling after four years. Writing his Dissertation on Transition Economics in Post Communist Russia, Alan graduated with a BA with Honours in Economics and History and therefore has a natural interest and expertise on a range of international issues. Whilst at University, Alan liked to take life head on and has captained his University Hockey team whilst also being elected to a number of Student Union bodies, putting forward young people’s ideas and opinions in an educational setting.

After graduation, Alan secured a role on the Royal Bank of Scotland Business Leadership Graduate Scheme. Over the course of his career within RBS, Alan has undertaken a number of local branch roles before joining more central roles in London. Having now completed his graduate scheme Alan works in Project Management and is currently a Brand Ambassador for RBS. Owing to all this, Alan has a natural interest in the role of business and youth enterprise in society, particularly following the global recession. He is especially interested in issues concerning youth unemployment and ways to find peace and reconciliation in conflict torn societies.

In his spare time Alan enjoys playing and watching football, running (completing the London Marathon last year) listening to music and trying to learn his guitar. Alan counts amongst his interests Current Affairs and International Development issues with the Commonwealth principles of politics of tolerance, democracy and internationalism being important to Alan.
