Isaac Musyoka's presentation at CYEC annual Forum " Commonwealth Connections in a Global Age"
I spent the entire morning trying to scrap down on a piece of paper what I’m going to say to you. Writing an entire speech that’s going to be so powerful that I’d feel great about myself because I was hoping that you’d take a message home with you and maybe change your lives. But I realized that I failed at that task. My task is not to stand here and tell you what you already know, what you’ve been doing or what you should do. My task is to stand here and look into your eyes and say you are my brothers and sisters!
Through DTA I’ve been able to connect, challenge, and change in a fun and highly participatory peer learning and leadership programme. I’ve met and shared with young people from Wales and Northern Ireland about my personal experiences and what drives me as an activist and youth leader from Kenya, as well as what young people in Kenya are achieving through action projects in their local communities.
I’ve learned that we are not the only ones working to achieve something in the future. You tend to feel in your own home country that you are alone in your efforts, which makes it harder to kind of stick by whatever projects you are doing. But in this case it kind of gives me extra hope and extra encouragement seeing other young people go through the same struggles knowing what they want to do, knowing that we can do it together. We are no longer just one continent or one country, we are one person and our goal is to solve our problems together! Our problems will not be solved one at a time, our problems will not be solved if we all stand alone, our problems will be solved if we stand together
My fellow young people, friends of the CYEC, and all of you who joined us on this occasion, Lets connect, challenge and change for a better commonwealth and a better world.
Thank you!!!
