Youth Action Group

The Youth Action Group is for young people who are interested in getting more involved in the development of CYEC and taking action on Commonwealth projects.

“Taking minutes, chairing meetings, fundraising, speaking – it’s been a great and continuous learning process and has given me huge personal confidence and the skills that will help me in my working life. I know I can do a lot of things with my life.”

We are a network of young people who have completed youth exchanges, taken part in youth forums or simply have an interest in the Commonwealth.

We come together to:

  • Feed into the future development of CYEC;
  • Plan events for young people to share their experiences and have a say on Commonwealth issues; and
  • Promote the role of young people in the Commonwealth.

Four young people from the Youth Action Group sit on the CYEC Trustee Board.

If you would like to join the Youth Action Group please contact us.

Notes from July meeting

Monday, June 29, 2009 - 11:40

I spent the entire morning trying to scrap down on a piece of paper what I’m going to say to you. Writing an entire speech that’s going to be so powerful that I’d feel great about myself because I was hoping that you’d take a message home with you and maybe change your lives. But I realized that I failed at that task. My task is not to stand here and tell you what you already know, what you’ve been doing or what you should do. My task is to stand here and look into your eyes and say you are my brothers and sisters!

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 - 17:30

Members of the Youth Action Group, and other young people who have been involved in the work of the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council were amongst the guests at a reception to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Commonwealth hosted by the Queen inside Buckingham Palace yesterday.

The event included a performance of the Commonwealth Cantata, and young people from CYEC had the chance to share their stories with the Queen and with guest from many Commonwealth Countries.
